I hate when I run out of milk. It's one of those items that must be replenished quickly in a house full of kids. Upon pouring the last of the milk into Liza's cereal this morning I begrudgingly decided that I must venture to the store today...with all 5 children. Usually I reserve this outing for an early Saturday morning when no one is awake or late at night. I secretly like listening to the music in the store as it plays over the intercom and I love organizing the food on the conveyor belt, (Wal-mart doesn't bag groceries well, I've found 409 in the same bag as my deli meat...eeew).
We loaded up the clown car and off we went. As I've mentioned in a previous post we have a limo sized stroller, it comes in handy sometime believe it or not, but it's no small feat to get that thing in and out of the back of the van. Good thing I've been beefing up lately lifting those car seats! Shortly after arriving I realized that we needed to get a bday present for Liza's little friend so we would need to go to the toy department. Scary I know! We found what we needed, along with the gallon of ice cream that jumped out of the freezer and landed on the stroller and I got to the produce and realized that I was missing a child. Who might that child be but little Liza who seems to have a mind of her own these days. She thought we needed syrup to go with our ice cream, but thank goodness grandma stocked us up with that food storage when she was here. I heard one lady chuckle at my missing child and I'm positive the thought ran through her mind, "Geez lady stop having kids and you won't lose them!", because it actually crossed my mind also!
We finally reached the checkout lane and I'm sure I ask this question everytime I shop with kids, "Whose brilliant idea was it to put candy at a child's eye-level and within reach at the checkout?" That was tons of fun prying the Starbursts out of Liza's hand while repeating the words, "Stop touching everything!"
I was reminded today as to why I shop alone. It was a fun adventure for the day and sure did appreciate the sideways looks I received from many patrons as they counted in their heads how many children I actually had.

That was really funny. I could see the whole thing..
That made me laugh out loud, I can totally picture the whole thing...especially the looks from all the other people. I used to get those when I was babysitting 2 girls & would have to venture to the store with all of them :)
You are too funny!! You might have to put this all in a book one day. Of course, after the kids are gone (if that is ever possible).
I love the visual image I had while reading your adventure. Also, love that I'm not the only one that has to arrange things while checking out.
I cannot stop laughing! Too funny! Miss you guys!
yes hilarious! man i have a hard time just going out with 2! I can't even imagine! you are tough and daring and thank heavens you can laugh:)
LOL. I can totally relate. Just one of those things we do having so many kids. When I see people in WALMART with lots of kids I count them too and then wonder if they are in another ward somewhere in this city of mine. :)
congratulations! Glad you made it home.
I love arranging my groceries.
I feel the same about the candy at the check out.
AND
I'm thinking Liza and Ivy would really get along.
You are one brave woman!
