On the road again

I feel like Willy Nelson, no I'm not stoned, but we are dreadfully gearing up for our 15 hours in the car to go to Montana. My great-grandfather passed away on March 30th and we are going to Dillon for his memorial service this Sunday. I've done the shopping for our snacks, am in the process of laundry and still need to organize the clothes for the whole 2 1/2 days we will be in the blistery north. I've become too used to the warmth here in Colorado Springs that I'm not too sure how I feel about having to wear sweatshirts and long underwear again.

I'm interested to see how Liza does this time in the car. Last summer when she was only about 12 weeks old she cried from Spokane to Dillon, for nearly the entire way. Barry had temporary hearing loss from the screaming I do recall. By the time Dillon was in sight I succumbed and took her out of her car seat and just held her. She is now facing forward so hopefully she won't be completely miserable. The boys are usually completely entertained by putting movie after movie in and eating. I swear my kids' brains turn to mush after those long days in the car. As long as their quiet I'm happy.

Last summer we devised a new snacking routine for our trips. Instead of spending at least another $15 in food at each gas station on mostly crap, we stock up before hand with yummy palate pleasing snacks like carrots, grapes, crackers with cheese and pepperoni, and water, lots and lots of water. Of course no trip would be complete without ample Coke.

We are though looking forward to seeing friends in Salt Lake and family in Montana. It will be a whirlwind trip but the change of scenery will be worthwhile. I'm afraid it will only make me hungry for July when we get to spend the whole month together as a family making memories with no sporting events, coach meetings, or practice to attend.

Love the new blog template. Looks great. Have a great trip. Drive safe. We are heading out for a long drive next week, and I am wondering how our potty trainey will do. Any tips.
