Today I started my fetal monitoring. That was an adventure. I now get to drive to the hospital every week and be hooked up to the monitor. Not to mention that I have to drive down near the hospital for my weekly check-ups.
An ultrasound was done to see where the babies were. Apparently Baby B was "presenting" today, don't ask it's all a bit confusing when talking about twins. Anyway....the purpose of the monitoring is to watch their heart rates. They want to make sure that their heart rates stay within a baseline and then when they move that the heart rates increase, just the same as when we exercise. They were also checking my uterus for contractions. I had a decent amount of contractions within 45 minutes that it raised some concern for the nurse and she called my doctor. By contractions I mean that I was having what are called Braxton-Hicks, not labor contractions, but to them a contraction is a contraction. My doctor said that I was okay to go home instead of going over to the birth center to be monitored further. All in all, the babies passed. I was given more of the the same advice from the nurse, feet up, more water, relax, etc.
